What is cryogenic gas?

A group of gases or chemical compounds with unique characteristics is called cryogenic gas. These gases exist in gaseous form at normal pressure and temperature and turn into liquid form at temperatures lower than minus 150 degrees Celsius.

Cryogenic gases are cryogenic liquids that have vaporized and may still be at low temperatures. Cryogenic liquefied gases are known as supercooled gases or supercooled gases and are commonly referred to as cryogenic liquids. Cryogenic liquids are used because of their low-temperature properties, such as allowing larger quantities to be stored or transported. They are very cold and have a boiling point below -150 °C (-238 °F).

Cryogenic gas is used as an important chemical in various industries such as electronics, chemical and metal industries. Also, due to its toxicity, it should be used with caution and attention to safety regulations in industries. Cryogenic gas is a colorless, odorless and poisonous gas that is gaseous at room temperature, liquid at lower temperatures, and solid at very low temperatures. This gas has many chemical and physical properties that make it one of the most important industrial gases.

One of the important properties of cryogenic gas is its high oxidation ability. Due to its high oxidation potential, this gas is used as an oxidizing agent in many industrial processes.

Also, cryogenic gas has antibacterial and antifungal properties that are used in many industries such as food and pharmaceutical industries.

In the chemical industry, cryogenic gas is used as one of the most important raw materials in the production of many chemical products. This gas is used in the production of plastic, paint, resin, petroleum products, etc.

Metal Industry

In the metal industry, cryogenic gas is used as one of the most important raw materials in the production of steel and stainless steel. This gas is used in the process of steel carburization and stainless steel production.

Plastic industry

In plastic industries, cryogenic gas is used as one of the most important raw materials in plastic production. This gas is used in the production of polyurethane, polystyrene, etc.


 

The most widely used cryogenic gases

Hydrogen cyanide cryogenic gas (HCN)

One of the most famous cryogenic gases is hydrogen cyanide (HCN), which is formed by the combination of carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen atoms. HCN is a highly toxic and flammable gas and is used for industrial applications such as the production of plastics, paints, paper, and disinfection.

In medicine, the cryogenic gas hydrogen cyanide (HCN) is used as a surface alkali in surgery. During surgery, some tissue may need to be removed. The use of hydrogen cyanide as a surface alkali allows you to chase tissues and have the ability to get rid of living parts. This process is known as “scalpel”.

Another cryogenic gas is sulfur dioxide (SO2), which is a compound of one sulfur atom and two oxygen atoms. SO2 is used as a toxic and penetrating gas and is used in industry as a disinfecting, neutralizing or impregnating agent. In addition, nitric oxide (NO) gas is also used in medicine. Nitric oxide gas is used in respiratory therapy. The use of nitric oxide is useful in the treatment of some respiratory diseases such as neonatal respiratory distress (RDS) that occurs in premature infants.

In addition, there is another chemical geometry that is formed at very low temperatures of gases such as liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen and magnesium gas. These gases are used in some military applications as effective and powerful launchers for missiles and rockets.

 

An important point about the use of cryogenic gas

In general, the use of cryogenic gases in medicine as disinfectants, impregnations and air flow regulators can have beneficial effects. However, the use of these gases must be carried out under the supervision of medical professionals and in strict compliance with health laws and standards.
